Jackie, do you know the model number, please, and what size is the screen?

Hi Carol et al

Well, we've bought a Toshiba model which has a nice
remote control with spaced out buttons. The AD button is
below the number seven, where the star would be on a
telephone keypad. The AD button is a toggle, so it saves
going into the menu to turn it on. Freeview is built
into the TV, and the sound is reasonable for the price.
It is just a pity the channels and other info isn't
spoken.

We purchased a very low-end 17-inch (or there abouts) TV
just a little while back from John Lewis but can't
remember its make off hand (senile moment), but it does
have freeview built in. Although its own speaker isn't
that brilliant, we have plugged in our Goodmans speakers
and it's sounding pretty good now. It's almost as good
as our previous model which, I recall, cost us £800
several years ago and didn't have freeview.

Hi Carol et all

Thanks to all who gave me helpful feedback to my query.
It looks as though most television sets carry AD these
days, and the chap in our local shop surprised me by
knowing of its existence. We haven't made up our minds
yet what to go for, but Panasonic seems to be the best
brand that is accessible, at least according to the site
a list member kindly provided a link for. I would
personally like something with everything built into the
set, but dread to think how accessible that would be. I
don't particularly want to go down the route of
purchasing separate items in order to get equipment to
talk at the moment, for example the RNIB Freeview box.
I would rather wait for that to become available as a
recorder as well if possible. Anyway, much food for
thought.

Jackie,

I don't know about all, but certainly all the models we
looked at had the audio description setting somewhere.
Just check each model that is of interest to you but I
think you'll find they do.

Guys, the time has come to look at purchasing a new TV,
and what I am curious to know is how does one find out
if the TV supports Audio Description, or do they all
come with it nowadays?

Any help appreciated.
