Thanks, Mark, but it isn't that simple I'm sorry to say.

She has tried those things but there seems to really be some sort of
problem. Even with a sighted friend she can't get there. It will say,
"Desktop, 18 items. no focus detected." No amount of windows key with m or d
will do it.

Thanks for replying.

Best wishes,

Joan.

Joan,

Your friend will need to get the focus back in the desktop by pressing
windows key and D together. Windows key and M together should also do the
same. If there is another application open you can also use alt and tab to
switch into it which would return the focus to something.

hth,

Hi, Folks,
I have had a frantic phone call from a Hal user. She is unable to use her
computer because, when on the desktop, Hal announces "No Focus Detected".

Would anyone be able to explain this problem? I am not a Hal user myself.

Best wishes,

Joan.
