That's bad, but I can honestly say I've not experienced any of the issues you have. I am, however, using two fairly new computers. I would certainly be cheesed off if I was in your situation. I've not noticed any detieriation in JAWS over the past few years. I've not really felt that it's been worth the cost of upgrading though. As I don't pay for my upgrades myself, maybe that's why I'm not unhappy. I can remember a time, not so long ago, when people where saying that tables in Word where only used by power users and it didn't matter if your screen-reader didn't recognise them. At that time, JAWS worked well with tables and those people who needed to use tables had to use JAWS. Now most screen-readers work with tables, someone who needs to use them has a choice again. This is true for a lot of features in a lot of programs. In my opinion, where JAWS excelled in the past was with it's concentration on access to Microsoft Office, which the vast majority of people in employment needed to use. The situation is happily much different now, I happen to think Dolphin's Hal screen-reader is every bit as good as JAWS - but don't ask me about there speech engine. Not everyone uses the same applications in the same way every day. I recognise this and am rather unfortunate. As editor of a website my internet research has been hampered and my writing in word or other text editors has also. Oh and yes, access to Microsoft Access is very hit and miss. Don't ask me why. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tyrer, Jonathan" <Jonathan.Tyrer@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2005 11:44 AM Subject: [access-uk] Quality isn't always necessary > One thing I think some people forget is that having a product that works > perfectly, but that is out years later than one that works %99 isn't > always what people want.
