Hi Graham and John,

Are you sure folks it wasn't a display configuration issue? If (none) is ticked in preferences it loads up just like a normal google search page. And I think it is google tool bar that is responsible for blocking adds and pop-ups rather than google desktop search. Anyway, I haven't had any issues with google desktop search thus far. I don't think it slowed down my machine either. Mind you, I've a few programs running in the back ground so I might just haven't noticed it's effect.

Cheers,
Amro

Hi Graham.

I totally agree. I got rid of Google desktop search and it was the best thing i've done in ages.

I have found it not to be particularly accessible and it seems to block popups and other websites. I would get rid of it.

Hi all

I know how useful Google desktop is as a search facility, but I'd like listers views on the following:

 1. How much does it slow the computer down in normal running.
 2. Does it conflict with any programmes?
 3. Does it get picked up as a virus/spyware by security software?

I'm using Xp, Office 2003 pro, Nod32, hitman pro, and JFW5.1.

 Thanks very much

 Barry
