Hi Jackie,
What happens for you then if you don’t hit the link a second time? If you wait
two or three minutes, then visit your download folder, do you not find the book
is there?
I don’t find I have to hit the download link twice at all. I just don’t get
information as to when it is ready from pending. This could easily be fixed on
the website with ARIA.
All the best
Steve

Hi Janet
Just to say though that you need to wait a couple of minutes before you hit the
Download link a second time. But don’t be surprised if you end up with two
copies of the book, that often happens. Still, I’d rather that than no book at
all! We are really enjoying the service, but it just has some quirks that need
sorting out. I think it is going to confuse newcomers who aren’t perhaps as
sure of using the web to download books. I haven’t come across a problem
though of an incomplete title.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Hi Jackie, one other thing that happens is that whent you download a book and
unzip it it is not always completely there. going to try your double hit on
the book link to see if I can get some books. thanks for the tip. Janet

Hi Petrina
There is something a bit weird going on with that site that RNIB hasn’t yet got
sorted out, but I’m not technical enough to understand what it is that needs to
be done to rectify it. Perhaps there is more than one issue at play here.
What I do is log into the site, then search for a title, normally author’s
surname, followed by a comma, then the author’s first name. If the search
yields results, I press T for table, then the list of results is displayed with
a link to each book. I choose the book I want by entering on the link. Once I
get past all the details of the book, I press the Download link. This is where
it gets a bit weird. The ‘Pending Download’ message hangs about for a long
time, and I don’t just mean a minute or two. What I do at this juncture is not
go to my Pending Downloads link, but rather press the Download link on the book
again, then it starts to download. Very often, I get two copies of the book in
my Downloads folder, but that’s the only sure way I can ensure my book starts
to download by activating the link twice. Martin has found exactly the same
procedure works on his machine.
As for the logging in process, I find that choosing the Login page before I do
anything else works for me, even though my Email and password details are
saved. Once I press Login, I’m in without having to enter them. But if I go
to the site just to search for a book without logging in, then the fun starts.
Personally, and this is not a criticism of RNIB for what it is trying to do, I
think the site wasn’t ready for release when it became available to customers.
I’ve downloaded lots of books and am enjoying this aspect, but it’s far from a
finished product as RNIB has admitted already. For those just starting out,
it’s not a smooth process, and it takes a bit of getting used to.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Subject: [access-uk] Problems using the RNIB reading services site again
Hi all,
Since the new RNIB reading services website was launched I have only been able
to use it for about a fortnight. Because from day one I had problems with
loging in, but avenchaly this was sorted out. But I now find myself back at the
beginning again, because once again I find myself unable to login to the site.
In my opinion this is totally unacceptable surely by now what ever the problem
is that stops me from accessing the site, should have been sorted out. I would
like to know just how many other people, like me are still unable to access the
site. Also in four days time they are going to be closing the Over Drive
website.
All the best
Petrina
