Jackie, I use Voicedream Reader on my iPhone to read books, and you can tell both the position within a track and the book very easily. Think that, although slightly more lengthy procedure to get books on to phone, the resulting experience is great. Let me know if you're interested in discovering more. There are, however, two points about the service I personally don't like. 1. The books are of very poor quality. They are tolerable to read, but very low bit rate. 2. And of more irritation to me, when I want to find out how much of a chapter I have left so as to stop reading at a suitable point, I find it difficult to achieve with OverDrive downloads as books are not split into chapters, but rather into parts which tend to overlap. A part might last over an hour, but there might be a couple of chapters and a bit in that portion of time, and it makes it rather difficult to find out exactly how much time a chapter has to go. Why oh why could they not have been split, or even been available in DAISY format to download? Not moaning as such, just really wondering if others feel the same, and what if anything can be done? If this has been covered before then I apologise, but I haven't followed every thread on OverDrive as so much has been written. The file structure of Overdrive books is different from their DAISY equivalents. Personally, I think any download or streaming system should have utilised DAISY as not doing so has cut down the possibilities of effective book manipulation for those who desire it. Is it really that difficult that it takes this length of time when the said book is in digital format from the mem stick/disc catalogue? I think someone's being unacceptably slow here. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of David Griffith Sent: 16 December 2014 13:22 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Priority Uploads to RNIB Overdrive Thanks for providing me with sight of this which was also invisible on my system. To respond to Lisa's post. I do not consider it is appropriate to comment in detail on our correspondence on list = but given it has been raised . This email to me last week said did not mention February but the New Year. However the wider principle of refusing to allow a priority = system of uploading books for people who are waiting for books is worth of wider discussion as this is presumably an issue of RNIB Overdrive policy. The issue is not that books are being uploaded but that people like me have been waiting since early November for books to become available with no promise that they be available until February. In other words there is potentially a wait of 4 months for a book. This I personally regard as unacceptable and unresponsive policy and ask that it urgently be reviewed in favour of responding to request for book uploads. I am circulating this o n a wider forum as I am interested in the views of other Visually Impaired people on this aspect of RNIB Overdrive Policy. David Griffith . If you do have any further queries, please don't hesitate to contact the Overdrive team as instructed, who are more than happy to help. Best regards, Louisa.
