Hi,

It's called the vi player I think |I don't know any more than that but I think it's just copy and paste.

Hi Clive

Perhaps it isn't called the Vibe that I'm thinking of on the RNIB shop, but
there is definitely something they sell that is claimed to be an MP3 player
which talks. I must have a look as it's beginning to make me feel I've had
one of these funny dreams!! (big smile).

I've never used a Zenstone, so can't help with that. I've got stuck into
Apple now so that's that because my Iriver's battery ran out, and Rockbox
can be a pain to work with if you don't have sighted assistance around to
install it.

Hi Jackie,

I have a victor Vibe, but it's basically an MP3/daisy CD player. I think
you may be able to plug SD cards into it, but you need a very big poacher's
pocket to port it around with you. Someone has also mentioned Archos, but
I'm not sure if this will work by copying and pasting. Some people have
been advising me that the Creative Zen Stone isn't made anymore. It seems
to me that there are a lot of myths circulating on the subject of portable
players. Is the discontinuation of Zen Stone one of them?

Thanks in advance,
Clive

Hi Clive

I appreciate your frustrations and, to a very large extent, agree with them.

I used to use an Iriver H340 which allowed you to simply copy and paste from
one drive to another within Windows Explorer. I don't know if there are any
cheaper brands on the market that will let you do that. As you say, all the
Apple products require you to use iTunes, and the specialist devices will
let you use Windows Explorer to copy and paste, but are expensive just for
music. I thought the RNIB had one called the Vibe or something, but I've
never seen it, know next to nothing about it, and think it is still
expensive from what I hear.

Perhaps the Zenstone users among you could help?

Subject: [access-uk] Portable players

Hi all,

I'm now beginning to think that the Apple ITunes programme and IPods may not
be for me. I can't run to a Victor player upwards of £200 at present.

Are there any portable players out there which :

are Easy for a VI person to use;
don't rely on syncing from within complex computer programmes but instead
let you copy and paste mp3 files from your computer to your portable device;
have at least 4gb storage capacity, or play music stored on SD cards.

I've heard it said that all portable players need you to sync from your
computer through ITunes, Windows Media Player or whatever. I've heard other
people say that this is nonsense.

#so, does the device I want actually exist?

Thanks,
Clive
