Hi Mel, I'm commercially biased here, being a Duxbury dealer and support centre. Braille-UK is a Yahoogroups lists where I'm sure you'd get good suggestions as to what to go for. But bear in mind that few current packages are fully up to date with the latest UK rules, especially the free ones. I'd be interested in purchasing a Braille translation package such as Duxbury, but would like to do it on the cheap if possible! What sort of prices am I looking at for Braille translation software? Are all the packages compatible with the Porta Thiel or is it Duxbury I should be considering? If you are using a package like Duxbury, you do not need any drivers. Duxbury has this on its list of embossers, and will output to whatever port to connect to. If you simply want to emboss quick notes from the likes of Notepad, and can accept what is essentially computer braille, you can add a "Generic/text only" printer on LPT1, or whatever port you connect the Porta-Thiel to, and output to that. Does anyone know if it could be usable with Windows XP and which software I'd need to purchase to get it working?
