Ray & Christine, I've just received my Plexter PTN1 player, and I am still finding my way around the machine, but already I love it. I resolved the sound

quality problem, by adding a pair of external speakers, and that made a great difference to the audio sound quality, I'm now listening to my music tracks & audio books in wonderful stereo sound.

Interesting comment Christine, especially as I don't actually have a
Plexter PTN1 player. I imagine you are influenced as much as anything
by being someone with substantial hearing loss as to the sound
quality, which is interesting.

Must say though that comments on the RNIB Arena list have been
generally favourable towards the PTN1. Not long back RNIB put out
some questions about improvements to the PTN1 asking what we most
wanted. No one as I recall came up with much, if anything. Since
though I have felt the need for information about the amount of time
until the end of the chapter you're listening to, which would help to
decide whether to carry on listening or pause where you are.

My Victor Classic is the original one, and the battery life with that
was and is abysmal. I believe later models were better in this
respect.

O, I have one of those Silly Plextors, they're awful, only one
speaker, can
hardly Hear the thing, no handle and a Stupid switch-off snooze
fascility
thing I don't know how to use and possibly a clock I'm not sure. I
Hate it!
So what's better about the newer version? By the way, I didn't have a
problem with the victor readers batteries, they lasted me 4 years
before
they gave up the ghost! lol

Billy, please keep me informed about how you find the PTN1 as I
think
i should now be asking for my fairly aged Victor Classic to be
replaced.

You will find at the very least the battery life is much greater
than
the Classic. How the Classic ever got released with such poor
battery
life is beyond me.

I have always hoped that someone, if not Plextor, would see fit to
release a dual card/CD player, but it seems you have to go for the
PTR2 if that's what you want.

Sometimes it seems that Plextor might not be in the accessible
player
and recorder market for long to judge by what some have said about
their support. Let's hope that's not true as a propper choice of
propper stirdy DAISY players aren't that plentiful.
