Oh well, if anyone can join in this off topic subject then here goes.
I have mixed feelings about high rate mbility for blind people. Derek has
pointed out the seeming lack of mobility training which many local authorities
don't exactly encourage blind people to seek, much less actually get the
training.
Given the very sad state of public transport, especially in the evenings, little
wonder a group, rather more voulnerable than most, is looking for a sub to get
around that. And to get around at all!
I've seen at least one over-paid charity director as a signatury to the
petition, and I'm not surprised. Given that so many vol orgs now have sold off
any mini-bus transport they may have had due to costs and keeping liabilities
low, its not surprising they are interested in promoting high rate to put the
people who are always saying they can't get to their tea and sympathy sessions
in taxis.
