I don't know if this contributes much to the conversation but I use a little utility called 'copy path'. When you've located a file or folder this handy utility has a 'copy path' option reached by right clicking the on the file. In fact it has several options but I always choose 'copy long path'. You can then paste the whole path wherever you like. A quicke Google will turn it up.
