Eleanor, you have "group similar taskbar buttons" checked. Turn it off in the taskbar page of Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, accessed by pressing alt enter on anywhere but the desktop, including the start button or taskbar itself. Note when focused on the start button, press alt enter on the button, not just enter. Hope this helps.

Thanks Ted that is a brilliant idea. I must try it and for other applications also. What I mean is that if Outlook Express is minamised on the task bar and I have 3 e-mails open, perhaps one I am replying to and two others that I am reading, then what is happening is this. There is the number 3 to the right of the Outlook Express and if one left clicks with the mouse and moves ujp the screen each separate e-mail can be seen. Now I could have to move up to number 2 of 4. What I am sahing is that going from left to right across the lower part of the screen it is normally possible to have each separate e-mail or application minamised, going left to right rather than sitting on top of each other. Nows maybe someone will understand from that and be able to help more.

Eleanor, I'm afraid you've lost me when you talk about messages side by side.
I hope someone else has a better imagination than me.

Re. shortcuts, if you are in MS Word or anything else, and you want to open Outlook Express without minimising Word, just press the shortcut you have created, and OE will open.

To create the shortcut, highlight the OE desktop icon and press alt + enter. This opens the properties sheet, where you will find an edit field marked shortcut key. It will say "none." Hit any key, the obvious one for OE would be O, as long as it is not in use already for another shortcut. This procedure, will of course work for any other prog on the desktop, not just OE.

Yes you are right now it is the quick launch bar, now that you say it. I have another problem say when Outlook Express is open and I have some e-mails open, they are all sitting on top of each other rather than side by side. I find this most irritating as I use the mouse and it is difficult. Do you know how I put them side by side instead please? Now what you were saying about the quick key from the keyboard, if I am in Word for example, or PDF file how does that work? Remember I may not always want to Open Outlook Express when I sit down at the computer so at the moment I am having to minamise my applications to get at the icon on the desktop.

I think that's called the quick launch bar. I don't know how to add Outlook Express to it, some programmes invite you to do this during installation.

But to repeat what I said before, if you want to open OE quickly when you have other things open on the screen, a shortcut keystroke achieves the same result.

I have Outlook Express icon on the desktop. Is that what you mean? No I want it on the bottom of the screen on the Task Bar where I have other applications such as internet Explorer, Windows Media Player and Real Player.

Thanks for your help.

Eleanor, I think what you really need is a shortcut to OE from its desktop icon. You can create one from the properties sheet. Then whatever else you have running, you can launch OE with a key press. No need to have it on the task bar.

I am not wanting to open Outlook Express, minamise it and put it on the task bar. I just want it on the task bar so that if i DECIDE TO OPEN IT, i CAN GET AT IT EASILY RATHER THAN CLOSING DOWN OR MINAMISING THE APPLICATINS i AM WORKING WITH TO GET AT IT ON THE DESKTOP OR HAVING TO GO THROUGH THE START MENU FOR IT.

pLEASE DO UNDERSTAND THAT i APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S COMMENTS AND UNDERSTAND THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE WORKING ENTIRELY FROM THE KEYBOARD AND NOT USING THE MOUSE.

Minimizing OE will place its icon on the taskbar. If you use the mouse, just click on the minimize simbol on the right top corner of the window, or in the OE window press alt+space and enter on minimize. It will work for almost all programs.

That is not what I am looking for Ibrahim. I might have 3 word documents open and then I might want to open Outlook Express. I would find it very handy to use the mouose and go to the task bar and click on the Outlook Express Icon without having to go throught the Start menu or minamizing all my Word documents to click on the Outlook Express icon on the desktop.

     Hi Eleanor.

         Hi Eleanor.

No, sorry, I'm misreading your message. When you said the task bar, I thought you might be referring to the system tray that sits next to it. You can with the aid of this program Hide OE put outlook express in the system tray. When you minimise it, rather than becoming another task in the taskbar clogging up your task switching, it tucks itself away so you can keep it open and thus monitor your mail much more effectively.

Oh no of course not, it is quite a simple thing and I've had someone do it for me within minutes. I only want to be able to click on it form the task bar to open it.

             Hi Eleanor.

You can't, you need to use a separate program called Hide OE. Do a search in google for it, but download it from the R2 studios website as there are a few utilities around and not all of them are free or accessible.
