Hello Everybody,I have to apologise to you all that the information I gave previously on this list is now out of date. For the permanent sceptics I can only say I told you in good faith what I believed to be the case at the time. Now, having spoken with colleagues and the UK-based inventor who is handling the import process, here is an update. I can't promise that this information will be borne out by what actually happens. Things just do go worng and you never know the boat might sink! However this is the most honest information available to me today. 160 will be despatched from Peterborough by week beginning Monday 3 August. This will satisfy about half the orders we have on the system as of today. Priority will be given to people who ordered first.
By Friday August 7th we will have enough Penfriends to meet all remaining orders and by 25th August we will have 4,000 Penfriends so that should be the end of our initial "teething troubles
I'm sorry for making some of you wait. We did hit some last minute manufacturing revisions at the factory in China which put the schedule back by several weeks and we and the inventor just weren't informed fully. Information came to us in stages and wasn't always consistent.
We are though not deliberately misleading you or wishing to create more concern or disappointment out there.
I or a colleague will update this list throughout the summer as and when we have new reliable information.
Thanks for your patience. The Penfriend is worth the wait I can assure you of that.

The manufacturer is aware of this and we have discussed that all that would be needed would be an adjustable setting for the socket which would enable you to choose either line-in or external mic. This would need just a small firmware change of the type that can be carried out very easily with the 312.As regards voice recordings onto the memory card, you simply select external memory and navigate to a folder, then record in the usual way. If you don't choose a folder when you go to external memory, your recordings will just be at the top level with the folders.-----Original Message-----From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Scott CSent: 22 July 2009 16:14 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: milestone 312 question please? The 311 does record from line in and they claimed it would retain all of 311's features.I'm appalled that it doesn't do this as it's the mane thing I would use it for.How do you make it record on the sd card? The manufacturer is aware of this and we have discussed that all that would be needed would be an adjustable setting for the socket which would enable you to choose either line-in or external mic. This would need just a small firmware change of the type that can be carried out very easily with the 312. As regards voice recordings onto the memory card, you simply select external memory and navigate to a folder, then record in the usual way. If you don't choose a folder when you go to external memory, your recordings will just be at the top level with the folders. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Scott C Sent: 22 July 2009 16:14 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: milestone 312 question please? The manufacturer is aware of this andwe have discussed that all that would be needed would be an adjustablesetting for the socket which would enable you to choose either line-in orexternal mic. The manufacturer is aware of this and we have discussed that all that would be needed would be an adjustable setting for the socket which would enable you to choose either line-in or external mic. This would need just a small firmware change of the type that can be carried out very easily with the 312. As regards voice recordings onto the memory card, you simply select external memory and navigate to a folder, then record in the usual way. If you don't choose a folder when you go to external memory, your recordings will just be at the top level with the folders. -----Original Message-----From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On BehalfOf Scott C Sent: 22 July 2009 16:14 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: milestone 312 question please? The 311 does record from line in and they claimed it would retain all of311's features. The manufacturer is aware of this andwe have discussed that all that would be needed would be an adjustablesetting for the socket which would enable you to choose either line-in orexternal mic. The manufacturer is aware of this and we have discussed that all that would be needed would be an adjustable setting for the socket which would enable you to choose either line-in orexternal mic. This would need just a small firmware change of the typethat can be carried out very easily with the 312. As regards voice recordings onto the memory card, you simply selectexternal memory and navigate to a folder, then record in the usual way.If you don't choose a folder when you go to external memory, your recordings will just be at the top level with the folders. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Scott C Sent: 22 July 2009 16:14 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: milestone 312 question please? That's the sort of option you need to be looking for.I don't use Outlook much but have a 2003 copy here so I'll just take a quick look.Well, on my version, CTRL+SHFT+I does take me to the in-box - so it may work for you.Looking at the View menu, there is a setting for Folder List. If this is checked, your folders are shown. Perhaps this is what you need.HTH: -- Carol carol.pearson29@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ---- Original Message ---- From: Kevin Lloyd To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 8:08 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Microsoft Outlook Question > Doesn't control + shift + I take you back into folder > mode? I personally hate walking in or alongside open spaces as I struggle to walk in a straight line. I also struggle if the pavement/road is on a slope too. I must admit to finding mobility very hard these days. I'd probably do better with a dog, but I don't like them. I also find dropped kerbs very difficult, even if they have tactiles. I've never been taught to use this aids to mobility but have developed them over the years.Even a clock ticking in a room can aid indoor mobilty by using it as a reference point for otherthings in the room (it's relationship to the window, door or furniture). Ithink a lot of blind people do use echoe location without thinking about it just as a sighted person uses landmarks on familiar journey without conscientiously thinking about how many trees they pass along a roadbefore they turn left. I find modern buildings with very high ceilings andvast open spaces quite difficult to negotiate as all the sounds are mingled in space. Walking around Canary wharf in london i find very clostraphobic, and at the same time being a vast open space with little mobility aids in the form of building lines. It would be interesting to hear what other people think.
