I was just using the example that if you buy a meal in a restaurant, which
started this discussion in the first place, I would personally take enough
cash with me to pay for it, or offer my debit or credit card to pay for it.
Why is any of that so distasteful to you Steve? Why does that make me
obsessive about carrying cash? Of course I'm not suggesting people walk
about their city or town with their pockets stuffed with notes. But if I
knew I was going out for an evening, I would make sure I had the usual means
to pay, I wouldn't be expecting someone to say to me: 'sorry madam but
you've got to put your digits into this touchscreen or I'll do it for you.'
I'd simply offer to wash the dishes if it came to that, or give my name and
address and tell the proprietor I would send a cheque or pay by bank
transfer. Or I would ask them to call the police, have me arrested for not
paying, then face the media consequences!!
I'm sticking up for all the thousands of people who could never cope with
the scenario that Clive directed us to in the first place that's all. There
really is more to life than going into a shop and buying something where you
have to download an app to do so. That might all be very interesting for
you and a buzz that you get from such a transaction, but most people just
want to buy their goods or enjoy a meal without the fuss. I'm not against
cardless or Apple Pay or any of that if it can be achieved to accommodate
other people too, that's all I'm saying.
Right, rant over, off to get my tea that my husband did the shopping to get
and paid cash for!! (very big smile.)

You make a very good point. Jackie's obsession with cash doesn't take
account of the fact that you have to use some kind of hole in the wall
machine to get it out usually.
So if you have to use techie methods to get cash out, then you may as well
pay that way.
Jackie, how do you personally get hold of cash?
I personally don't like carrying a lot of money about, as I said, it's the
most insecure thing to do and makes you more vulnerable. Cash is
unidentifiable if it gets stolen.

basically, because the only way I have of getting hold of it, is via
cashback, as there are no accessible machines that I know of, or that are
anywhere near where I go. the only places I go to that do cashback, are
pubs, you can only get a certain amount, generally £50 max, plus now that I
have young Lizzie to look after/take care of, I am trying to stay out of
pubs more anyway.

then? It's ok to say what you might prefer, but what about other people?
Sure you can't please everyone all the time, but if we've all got to go into
shops and restaurants armed with a Smartphone that allows us to download an
app that then lets us pay for our goods or food, that is going to exempt a
lot of people for a whole bunch of reasons that have nothing to do with
being blind or partially sighted.
