Not true of the Powertel handsets, they do announce through the phone's
speaker, but they are pretty poor in my view.  I keep getting base not
available and all kinds of stuff.

Pele, one thing to be aware of is that the handsets themselves don't 
announce the incoming caller or number, this comes from the base station. 
Only a problem of course if you're away from the unit and unable to hear it 
when the phone rings .
