Thanks Steve, should have made clear that I'd tried that but for some reason it hadn't worked. However, the problem has fixed itself and the book I am currently reading has returned to the first item on page 1.

Yusuf, Sounds like you've changed the order in which the books are listed. I can put books in the order in which I've opened them rather than received them, but if this is what you're looking for here's I get there. When I first start the Kindle and press Home, I'm on the first book on page 1. Press UpArrow once to get from here to a "showing all X items" bit, then RightArrow to get to the possible options. I can LeftArrow three times to "most recent first", then Enter to change the view and return focus to the first book.
