Hi Tristan, many thanks for your help. The thing is, we're both running Skype version 3.8. So it definitely can't be Skype then. I did suggest looking into enabling WPA on her router, is this a good idea? Because I think so due to the way data is encrypted.

I have heard among the security bods that Skype did sustain a period of attack on it. This is why it kept getting updates around version 3.5 through 3.6 as the Skype guys tried to engineer small fixes around it. The best way to defend against it is to get the Skype updates when they occur, many security holes exist as the result of unpatchd software and new exploits that are discovered that use them. File sharing programs are also an extremely good route for malware in, but possibly the most frequent is through naughty bits of JAVAScript on dodgy sites or those that have become vulnerable to attack. The best aproach there would be to have IE7 and have it routinely disable JAVAScript on sites you do not normally visit until you directly whitelist them You can also do the same with Firefox using the NoScript extension, it is a little more work but will do as much as good anti-virus software used correctly to keep you safe. If you are not already hehind a NAT router thet get the PC or laptop behind one, most wireless routers are these days and does afford a degree of protection (at least from worms). Regards.
