Hi Tony, That's incredible quality for the money. What's the build quality like?

                   John.

I'm sorry that he didn't crack it, as it would have made for a much better
recording wouldn't it?

But you know what they say, no sense, no feeling. I crease up each time I
hear it.

Anyway, mic I use is Superlux E522/B, £49 ex vat from solid state sound.

It weighs a ton, so could double up as a hammer as well as producing
passable recordings.

The Sony external I use is a lot lighter and smaller.

Hi Tony, which Superlux mic were you using? I was looking at the UK
distributor's website today and they've got a comprehensive range,
instrument and vocal mics, both dynamics and condensers. As the Olympus
wouldn't have phantom power I take it the mic you were using was a
condenser. I'd like to check them out. I couldn't use my current mics, as
they're Neumann U87's and need phantom power. When I've used them with the
PTR1 to do recordings I've had to run them through the VoiceWorks Plus. The
only two dynamics I have are instrument mics, not vocal mics, and in all
cases have XLR.
Incidentally, I hope your brother-in-law's ok. He didn't half hit that
door. I'd be amazed if he didn't crack it.
                   John.

can you speed up the guided menus speeds?
maybe it can't read memory left as it uses recorded human speech

It doesn't speak time and date setting, although this can either be done
via
voice command, or using the bundled software.

The DM-5 does talk, not all functions though.

Hi Will, it seems to have a very similar spec. Did they ever release
the
DM4? I remember earlier in the year someone on the list replying to one
of
my posts asking about the DM550 that they'd been due anytime to release
the
DM2 and DM4. At the time I checked the info about them on the site, but
heard nothing further, then the DM5 was announced. I wonder if they
renumbered the models. As I say, the spec looks the same. Both have 8 gb
of
onboard memory, and both will take up to a 32 gb card, and both have
Daisy
capability. I've searched since for any sign of the DM4, but haven't
found
anything.

Hi John

Mics are fixed, but can be altered electronically, e.g. to give a
wider
stereo effect.

I'll check the specs in the hope that they will answer your other
question.

Hi Tony, just use the internal mics. Are the mics fixed or can you
angle
them? Are they condensers or dynamic?

Hi Again

What kind of demo would you like?

I can take a walk around Senlis later, and knock something up
after.

Would you like me to use just the built in mics, or an external
microphone
as well?

Cheers

The RNIB had said they were going to record a sight village podcast
on
the
DM5 and put it up for download. So much for RNIB promises. Empty
words
and

a

lot of song and dance coming to nothing.
It'll be interesting if Tony can do a demo. It'd like to hear how
the
microphones compare with the zoom H2 and the Edirol 09-HR.

Hi everybody, I understood from the previous thread re the DM5
that
the
RNIB were going to stock it. That was backed up by what the RNIB
said
both prior to and at Sight Village.

As I noticed from the Hagger Electronics website the DM5 is now
available here I rang the RNIB to check on availibility. According
to
Mark they're not going to be selling it. All they've got are the
450
and
550.

Could anyone in the know confirm what the exact position is. Are
they
going to stock it or not, and if so when? I'd like to get one, and
I'd
rather not wait months and months for it.

               John.
