No one should be doing a new claim in full. As I understand it both the Disability and Carers Service, and the company they have making the initial contact should be checking peoples possible eligibility and if likely to be eligible then send out the appropriate very brief form requesting documentation or confirmation it's not available and thus giving permission for them to obtain more information from the doctor etc.

The reason DWP won't have a record of the call is because it's not them making the initial calls. Once the person at DCS ralised it regarding the increase to Mobility Allowance on the grounds of being blind they should have advised to complete the form.

Have you made them aware you may be eligible. The company doing the initial contact should be sending out the forms automatically to those people they can't contact.

Dave,

I have heard many reports of poor communication about the DLA increase, so
I rang the helpline.

I was advised that I did not need to complete a new claim form, simply to
send proof of my disability to them in a covering letter. Registration card
was duly photocopied and the letter sent. I have not had any confirmation
of receipt, but I did send it registered delivery.

Others have said they were advised they needed to do a new claim in full, so
it appears the advice and communication is inconsistant.

DLA helpline 08457123456.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for this not strictly being an access issue, but I am certain it
will affect many on here.

Last November, DWP left a message on my answering machine, to which I
left a message in return, expecting a reply, I never got one.

I have just phoned the DWP, and no record exists of them phoning me.

Has anyone received a phone call or letter from the DWP concerning the
higher rate mobility of the D L A?

Cheers

Dave
