Yes you can definitely do this. Mine alerts me on the locked screen, and I
think this is turned on by default in Settings and Notifications. Also
check in Settings and Messages.
Finally, get your friend to check her phone is not muted. I realise this is
probably stating the obvious! (smile).

Hi,
Asking on behalf of a friend.
Is it possible to have any notifications such as an unread text message show
on an IPhone 6, before the phone is unlocked.
I can do this on my 4S, but can't seem to be able to help out my friend with
hers. If she receives a text and doesn't hear it, she's no idea she has
received one, whereas mine sit on the locked screen so when I turn the phone
off standby they show up.
Hope someone can help me with this.
