Sounds like something's up with the phone mate, as normally when you switch it on you either hear a buzzing noise, or, if you have enough vision, you'll see the screen light up and I believe the word "Nokia" appear. I have enough vision to see the screen light up, but not what's on the screen. Hope that helps.
