        Importance: High

        Dear Damon

I wonder if you can help me? I'm a usability engineer over in
New Media, and I am currently taking an MSC in
Human-computer-interaction. For my thesis project I am looking at
partially sighted people's use of the Ceefax service, to gather research
on how we could eventually make the BBCi digital text service more
usable for the partially sighted. (once analogue TV is switched off
these users may not have a usable text service)

Ceefax has benefits for the partially sighted, as it is possible
to view half a page at a time, thereby increasing the font size, and the
colour contrast may be better for many users. There are several other
areas where it may perform better too.

I begin my research with a questionnaire on Ceefax usage, and
will need to find 100 people to complete the study. First I need to
pilot my questionnaire, to see if it is suitable for a partially sighted
person, and for this I will need 6 people to test it out.

I was wondering if you knew of any partially sighted people,
preferably within the BBC, or friends and family of BBC staff. I would
need them to complete the questionnaire, and then to give me feedback on
how easy or hard it was to complete, whether they understood all the
questions, etc.

If you know of people who might be willing to help me, please
can you let me know, or forward this mail on to them.

        Thanks very much

        Amelia
