well, good on you, i would have said that i hadn't been made aware of those
charges and so wanted a refund, if that hadn't have worked i'd have gone to
he newspapers,

you said yourself thatit won'thelp a patients recovery if they're cut off
from their friends and family because people can't afford to call in to
speak with them.

when mum was in hospital i will say that at both glan clwyd and holywell
they did at least only use normal numbers which i got free as part of my
call package,  what did used to annoy me though was that the staff never
kniew how to transfer the call to the cordless phone and often asked me to
phone right back and they'd answer the call on the cordless.

Yes, trace, I did complain, but to no effect. Their response was that it

nothing to do with them and that it was an outsource company providing the
service. "After all, they need to cover their costs and make a profit" I

told.

~~That is the problem with outsourcing of anything. All of the various
outsource companies who provide a service, of any sort, are in it as a
business and as such need to make a profit to satisfy their own
shareholders.

That may be considered to be wrong, but there is also an argument which 
goes
along the lines of an expert service, such as a hospital, as an example,
should concentrate on what they are expert at and let others who are 
expert
in the ancillary areas carry out those services. Full state socialism 
would
say that this should be all done by the state, but that is not where we 
are.
Some may say for the worse, some for the better.

The one thing that I have come across in this aspect was one time when my
brother was in hospital in Kent, with pancreatitis and extremely ill. It
can
be somewhat grave, if not fatal. He did recover.

The point was that he rang me from a 07 number. In my ignorance, I 
thought
this was a mobile rated cost number and was quite happy to call him back
on
my mobile phone which is on a call package.
It turned out that in fact I was paying what I thought were extortionate
fees for the pleasure of ringing my brother in hospital. They were making
money out of people ringing their patients. I thought this was appalling.
His wife then bought his own mobile phone in to prevent this in the 
future
dozen or so days that I called him.

So, beware of all phone calls that you do not know who they came from.

the phone companies are actually as bad in some ways, take thesepremium
rate

numbers that in the past people have rung not knowing they'd be charged 
an
arm and a leg for doing so, the phone companies say that they can't do
anything about them, of course they can as its the phone companies who we
pay our bills to and so it must be they who pass on the money, hardly
roket
science not to is it.

I understand why you do that, but I see little point in using any
invective,
vulgarity or profanity against these people.
As far as they are concerned they are employees of a larger employer who
is
actually responsible for their efforts. While we recognise that what 
they
are doing is totally wrong, it may not be so in their view. They are 
just
earning a living.
My reaction when they do come through and I have the time is to see how
long
I can hold them on the phone without giving them any personal 
information
at
all. If I can then keep the line open for longer then the better it is.
It is their employers that the authorities need to get their hands on 
and
then confiscate all of their equipment, destroy it and then restrict
their
movements in the usual way for criminals.

We got a withheld number yesterday, and when I answered, this person

he was from Microsoft, and advised me to check my computer.  Well I

love this sort of thing, so I gave him a real mouthful which is not fit

repeating here.  Sometimes I can give these scammers a wind-up, but I
didn't
have time for it yesterday, so he got an earful of abuse instead.
Wherever
possible, people should reveal their number, but those who are ex
directory
often won't.

fair point, it's a difficult one in that case. I always tend to give my
mobile number to hospitals and doctors, at least if my phone reads out
that
it's with held I can choose to answer or just divert them to voicemail.
Most
medical centers do tend to leave voicemails.

I would block calls from international numbers and also calls from
with held numbers. Your provider should be able to do this. since i've
done this, touch wood we've not had any nusence calls.

I am registered with both the Telephone Preference Service and the
Mobile Preference Service which keeps the majority of nuisance calls
from hitting me. However I do still get a number of international
calls which do get through. That is, as I understand it, because TPS

Both yesterday and today I have had a call from a withheld and an
international number that claims to be working on behalf of TPS. They

to have been notified by my phone supplier that I have been receiving

given by me they have both abruptly hung up. In my view that proves
they were both scams.

So don't get caught by this new one.

I am aware that I can get things like call blockers and also  units

true-call but I do not currently wish to do so. There are a few
people who may call the house who we do want to get through.
