Hi,
I thought most receipts have a smoother texture than the new fiver. Best to
feel the outside edges rather than the middle of the note, as the texture is
markedly rougher towards the ends and sides of the notes.

Best,
Clive

I've just got hands on with a new fiver, and what a mess they made of that.
It feels, as most say, like a receipt.  You wouldn't know it was money at
all imho. They really dropped the ball on this one, and if the royal mint
consulted with RNIB, the feedback went right over their heads I think.  I'm
no luddite, but, this one is a real fail.  I wonder if Consulted with RNIB
is just a badge now, as it seems to have been with the chip and pin, what
with the new inaccessible machines being trialled.  If the manufacturers of
these things really consulted, and took feedback seriously, we wouldn't get
anywhere near touchscreen chip and pin, or these notes.

Hi Jackie,

I always insist, no matter the size of the queue, that I get cash and other
bits of paper separately.  I've just got into the habbit.  Also, where I
can, I always use my debit card, one piece of plastic is enough for me,
smile.

I don't mind the note, and am not going to lambast its design or anything
else.  I would only reiterate that you would need to be a little careful
when being handed one with a receipt at the same time in your change, as
happens, until you have time to further determine what is the note and what
is the receipt! When you are in a hurry at a till and want to make way for
the customer standing behind you, it might be easy to thrust the fiver in
your pocket thinking it is the receipt.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Brown

Subject: [access-uk] New 5 pound note

I have had an opportunity to look at and feel this new 5 pound note today. I
have some residual vision, however,l however, I find it very difficult to
believe that there has been input from organisations for the blind in
relation to the design of this note. there has been some discussion on list
about the note and all I can say is I will do my best to avoid having such a
note in my purse! let's hope that when the new £10 note comes in in 2017
that it will be more user friendly to visually impaired and blind people.
