James, That's interesting ...What do you mean about the interface not being all that clear at first with Hotspot...
I was looking at Joikuspot but couldn't understand the difference between the free version and the premium edition. Could you please explain that to me, please?

Hi Carol,I use Joikuspot Premium edition, and love it, its very easy to set up. I tried Walking Hotspot last night and wasn't all that impressed. It took ages to connect, and the interface isn't all that clear at first. On Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 04:48 PM (GMT), Carol Pearson wrote: Has anyone tried/used both of these programmes and can tell me the differences. I tried "Walking Hotspot" and was quite impressed, but the connection did seem pretty slow and I was paying through the nose at the time so didn't use it for too long. I may consider using it though in certain situations (if I'm away from home for a while) and so still may purchase. -- Carol carol.pearson29@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx----- Original Message ----- From: "James Scholes" <james@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: "Steve Nutt" <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, December 13, 2008 11:33 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Netbook thread revisitedAh, I'd forgot about the good old Walking Hotspot, Joikuspot is pretty much exactly the same.On Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 07:53 AM (GMT), Steve Nutt wrote: Hi Erica,Simplest way to do this, if you have a Wifi enabled phone, is to buy Walking Hotspot, http://www.walkinghotspot.com. Are you saying that if you go about with a laptop and your N95 this program sends a constant wifi signal from the phone which can then be picked up by the laptop? This would then save dongles etc. Does it use the higher speeds (I think it's HDSA or something like that), if it's available as opposed to 3G? Does it only work with 02 or would it work on other suppliers? Thanks. Also, the machine tended to get rather hot when using it.And by the way, I use a program called Joikuspot on my Nokia N95 which transmits my 3G internet from O2 from my phone as a WiFi signal. I then can connect to the internet anywhere on the netbook without having to disable my phone by removing my Sim.On Friday, December 12, 2008 at 11:58 AM (GMT), Jackie Cairns wrote: Hi SaqibYes I did, and would have gone for it had it not been for the keyboard. Ijust preferred the Samsung as I found the keyboard on the Advent very flat and not quite as tactile. What I mean by that is that some keyboardsare very flat, and the keys don't feel separated. Otherwise, I think thespec on the Advent and Samsung were identical. I think the Asuss was evensmaller, which is fine if you want something really tiny. I would just recommend people go out there and have a feel of these machines before buying. While they are pretty much alike, there are some subtle differences on the keyboard and shape of the machine that might have a differing appeal. I think the Packard-Bell had a dual core processor, butI just didn't like it, and am not a fan of that brand anyway.Jackie Cairns Braille Support Adviser Email: Jackie.Cairns@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sight and Sound Technology Welton House North Wing Summerhouse Road Moulton Park Northampton NN3 6WD Telephone: 01604 798024 Fax: 01604 798090 Web: www.sightandsound.co.uk-----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Saqib Sent: 12 December 2008 11:23 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Netbook thread revisitedHi Jacky Did you come across the Advent 4213? That one has a simcard slotunder the battery and you just insert a Three simcard in and use theirbroadband. This feature is useful for when out and about. No need to lookfor a wifi hotspot. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairns@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Cc: <bcab@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, December 12, 2008 9:14 AM Subject: [access-uk] Netbook thread revisitedHi AllApologies for cross-posting for those subscribed to both lists, but this topic has been covered on Access UK and BCAB recently.Having been very interested in the thread of Netbooks, I decided to have a wander round while on a couple of days leave last week, and have now purchased the Samsung NC10. I looked at the Advent and Asuss machines, as well as a similar spec Packard-Bell and the Samsung. I chose the latter because I just liked the keyboard that little bit better. For those who use a Pac Mate qwerty, the keys on the Samsung are not unlike it, and I felt comfortable typing on it without feeling too cramped up for space.I've now installed JAWS, K1000 and Microsoft Office Professional 2003, and find it works a treat with these and other programs I have added and use regularly. In fact, it's a cracker! I particularly love its portability, and bought a nice little bag that takes its mains charger and has room for other items like an external drive or USB pen.For those interested in wanting to buy one of these machines, the Samsung NC10 comes with 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, WiFi and Bluetooth, Windows XP Home, has three USB ports, ethernet connection, microphoneand headphone sockets, and a battery life purported to be around the 2.5hour mark. They come in I believe blue, white and black, the latter being the choice I went for. They cost around £300.All the machines I looked at had very similar specifications, with a slight variation on the estimated battery life. For me - and this is very personal to the individual - the Samsung had just that bit nicer keyboard. So far, so brill!!Jackie Cairns Braille Support Adviser Email: Jackie.Cairns@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sight and Sound Technology Welton House North Wing Summerhouse Road Moulton Park Northampton NN3 6WD Telephone: 01604 798024 Fax: 01604 798090 Web: www.sightandsound.co.uk ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq______________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned by the MessageLabs Email Security System.
