Wireless is slower than USB, yes.
 And the flexibility comes if you did use the wireless of being able to put
the phone in a good spot.

Yes, I do use the USB connection, but I thought that the wireless link would

provide more flexibility.  Is it easy to set up a wireless connection from 
laptop to phone and then access the 3G? Would wireless speeds be slower than

if using USB?
