Hi Eleanor My understanding is that there was no real problem at all to just go through the initial Windows questions such as name and keyboard language during setup. I'm not aware that anything asking for registration appeared, and certainly hasn't since I've been using it. I hope you get up and running soon. I sympathise greatly with your frustration at not having sighted assistance around. I copped out of touching mine for the weekend when I bought it, and waited until I took it into the office. I didn't see the point as there was nobody around to help, and I couldn't guess without risking a right cock-up occurring! (smile). I wonder if anyone who has had theirs set-up might be able to tell me. Otherwise I will have to wait until tomorrow and then I'll get it sorted. This is usually because popular manufacturors of PC's likeHP,Del, Samsung etc only supply you with a recovery disk, not a fullWindowsCD. I could be wrong, but something tells me that XP will not require activation by the user on the NC10. Last night I was very disappointed as I could not see a power light on and decided I would have to take it back to the shop today. I did this afternoon and immediately the man plugged it in and showed me where the gren light was. I could see the light. I then asked him if he would go through the set-up bit and he very kindly did. It took about 15 minutes or thereabouts so I went off and did my shopping and then it was ready. Now I have it back home I still cannot see that green light but have tried without the battery and yes indeed the power is coming through. Now there is some form or something coming up after Windows has booted up. What would that be. I tried using the voice thing, I forget what that is called, Chris recommended it to me but it was and is not making enough sense to me to know what to do now. I will have no problem once someone who can see is around but if anyone can tell me about this then I can move on another pace. In the meantime at least I can leave it charging for the next 6 hours. It may be that it all can, but Iwouldn'tsay for certain. I had sighted assistance just to get through thosescreens, but it doesn't really need to be anyone who has greatknowledgeof computers. It's all pretty straightforward stuff.Hope this helps a bit.-- Carol carol.pearson29@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx----- Original Message ----- From: "James Scholes" <james@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: "Eleanor Burke" <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, December 12, 2008 8:10 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Net Book Thread - Tosheba NB 100Hi Eleanor, I honestly couldn't say, if it comes with a regular install of XPthenyes, as there's a lot of steps to go through. However, if you canturn iton and boot into XP straight away, there's really no need. I can'tfindany info online about how XP comes configured on the unitunfortunately. On Friday, December 12, 2008 at 07:57 PM (GMT), Eleanor Burkewrote:Yes indeeed James. Many thanks for that. I think I need sighted assistance to get it up and running. the man in the shop said about XP andchoosinglanguage etc and having to wait about 10 minutes while it wentthroughits paces. Then he said about username and password. Do I need to putthesein? I can of course. Would you recommend me getting someone whocan seeto set all of this up for me? Once that is done and Supernova goeson, Iwould then be more in control again.Eleanor----- Original Message ----- From: "James Scholes" <james@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: "Eleanor Burke" <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, December 12, 2008 4:36 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Net Book Thread - Tosheba NB 100Hi Eleanor, 2 things about the Toshiba: The keyboard is very small, and it is designed to run Linux, not Windows. Of course, it does run Windows verywell, butif you're looking for a netbook, the Samsung NC10 is currently thebestall rounder, meaning that its price and features are good and well-balanced.
