Yes indeed George, that is where they are good to a point and then fall off. I suppose that is also where I needed to just stay around and not go off. Do I need then to register my Windows and if yes where will I get that registration number? 2 CDs came with the NC10 but I do not know what they are. Maybe the code is on one of them.

It's very likely to be either the Windows Registration for or the
Windows Activation form.

Pity the guy in the shop didn't follow this through.

George.

Hi I decided not to go for the Tosheba in the end but for the NC10.
Last
night I was very disappointed as I could not see a power light on and
decided I would have to take it back to the shop today. I did this
afternoon and immediately the man plugged it in and showed me where
the gren
light was. I could see the light. I then asked him if he would go
through
the set-up bit and he very kindly did. It took about 15 minutes or
thereabouts so I went off and did my shopping and then it was ready.
Now I
have it back home I still cannot see that green light but have tried
without
the battery and yes indeed the power is coming through. Now there is
some
form or something coming up after Windows has booted up. What would
that
be. I tried using the voice thing, I forget what that is called,
Chris
recommended it to me but it was and is not making enough sense to me
to know
what to do now. I will have no problem once someone who can see is
around
but if anyone can tell me about this then I can move on another pace.
In
the meantime at least I can leave it charging for the next 6 hours.

Hi,

If it's anything like the Advent 4211, it's configured to the point
where
there's various data you can put in, but I know that certainly some
(such
as keyboard) can be done later. It may be that it all can, but I
wouldn't
say for certain. I had sighted assistance just to get through those

screens, but it doesn't really need to be anyone who has great
knowledge
of computers. It's all pretty straightforward stuff.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Eleanor,
I honestly couldn't say, if it comes with a regular install of XP
then
yes, as there's a lot of steps to go through. However, if you can
turn it
on and boot into XP straight away, there's really no need. I can't
find
any info online about how XP comes configured on the unit
unfortunately.

Yes indeeed James. Many thanks for that. I think I need sighted
assistance
to get it up and running. the man in the shop said about XP and
choosing
language etc and having to wait about 10 minutes while it went
through
its
paces. Then he said about username and password. Do I need to put
these
in? I can of course. Would you recommend me getting someone who
can see
to
set all of this up for me? Once that is done and Supernova goes
on, I
would
then be more in control again.

Hi Eleanor,
2 things about the Toshiba: The keyboard is very small, and it is
designed
to run Linux, not Windows. Of course, it does run Windows very
well, but
if you're looking for a netbook, the Samsung NC10 is currently the
best
all rounder, meaning that its price and features are good and
well-balanced.
