Can you describe the hole? Is this a slot for an SD card perhaps? Laptops often come with an SD card reader built into the front, just below the front of the keyboard and will come with a fake SD card - just a bit of plastic - to protect the slot. If you press this in slightly, it will pop out Just a wild guess, as you did not say this was a laptop.
