Two quick points here: 1: The opt-out box is not exactly hidden away - it's the only box on this page: https://plus.google.com/settings/endorsements?hl=en Scroll, tick, save, job done. And it's not like there haven't been large banners right at the top of every google service I sign into, since the change. 2: To be honest, I am far, FAR more concerned about the invasion of privacy that is The Taxman. After all, as I'm not planning to blow anything up or look at any kiddyporn, I really do doubt that MI5/FBI/whoever is really that interested in this morning's browsing for rotary encoders and tutorials on the assembler computer language. However, The Taxman *has*, by use of violence, the ability to over-ride all my wishes and demand full details of my activities, both business and personal, in order that I should act as an unpaid tax collector so that I may work every day and hand over all earnings until mid-June so that the government may p*** it away on vanity projects, war, crazy feed-in tariffs and so on. Between Google giving me the choice to use or not use a service and opt in or opt out or policies, and the government giving me no choice in what the money is steals from me is spent on, I know which is farm far more alarming to me.
