Hi Vivian. No settings are retained when you delete the folder. It simply restores NVDA back to "factory" settings.Hope this helps. Take care. I've deleted the folder and, after turningthe computer on again later yesterday, I think I might have finally fixed (or at least greatly reduced) the problem, though it did say "desktop" a little while after I had been at the computer (and in the middle of an email, not on the desktop). I did also move the mouse from the desk and put it on top of the computer, just in case that was causing the problem too. Later I ran CCleaner and I haven't noticed the problem today. But what I was wondering is, what settings are deleted when I delete that NVDA folder in the %appdata% folder? When I restart Windows/NVDA, I notice, for instance, that NVDA is still echoing all punctuation, which I was happy to leave on and obviously I can easily change it in the NVDA preferences, but I'm just wondering if that would normally be retained when the NVDA folder is deleted? What you do is delete the NVDA from your %appdata% folder. That is, type %appdata% into the run dialogue box, press enter, and delete the folder entitled NVDA. You will lose your settings, but it should solve your problem. Take care. When you suggested about deleting the NVDA folder from my profile, do you mean just the folder which is installed within the hard drive? (I can't remember the whole path, but the installation gives you the option to browse and select somewhere else to put it, but I've always left it set as it is.) I wasn't aware the release candidate had come out, so thanks for letting me know that too. Are you touching the mouse pad if you have one by accident? Did you try deleting the NVDA folder from your profile? Also to note the RC (release candidate) version of 2011.1 is out, so you may want to install that to see if it fixed. Doubt it but worth a shot. Take care. I recently installed version 2011.1 beta 2 on the suggestion of someone else, but the problem hasn't been fixed, and I've now uninstalled it and gone back to 2010.2. I was also using BRLTTY (the Windows version), so that I could use my BrailleNote as a Braille display with NVDA, but I was getting even more unstable and eraticbehaviour, so I uninstalled BRLTTY. I also uninstalled JAWS 9.0.2169U,which I had on the same computer (I only have the one and am runningWindows XP). I have also run CCleaner (the version prior to the latest one), but still haven't fixed the problem. Anyone have any ideas as towhy this might be happening?
