Hello Steve,

Thinking about it from a programmer's perspective (25+ years), such a
function would have to be rapidly switchable as there are times when you
do want a number read out as a proper figure instead of just a string of
digits.  Maybe you could assume if it has decimal places, or it has an
embedded comma like a currency value, it could be assumed to be a number
and not a phone number or a reference number.

I have a particular problem with this since, being 52, my short-term
memory is shot to bits so I have to hear a number several times before
it sinks in, and even then sometimes I have to do it piecemeal, like
when I was transferring numbers from one phone to another.

I can't remember more than about 4 or 5 digits in a string any more.
But I can remember what I had for breakfast so I'm not totally ga ga yet.

Hi,

I know, but the big boys can handle it, JFW and Window-Eyes and even
Supernova has number control.  It should be a basic function of any screen
reader.  I'm surprised NVDA doesn't do it at core level, since it was
written by two blind guys and you'd think numbers as words all the time
would drive them up the wall, especially when programming.

Hello,
Not trying to hijack, but even IOS has issues with something like 999999, or
a phone number, at least, with punctuation disabled.

Hi,

Wow and a screen reader never had that basic feature until now?
Incredible.

How did everyone put up with it?  Phone numbers anyone?

Steve,   your correct but there has been a patch submitted some time ago
just not had the love yet.

Hi
Please could someone remind me how to change the settings to ensure that
NVDA speaks individual digits when announcing a long string of numbers?

Many thanks
Henry
