Ibrahim, the washer we've just broken was seven and a half years in and we didn't have any servicing done, which is unusual for us and due to the fact we moved whilst we still had a three-year warranty on it and then just didn't get round to that one.

We also had a condenser tumble drier and I too wouldn't go for another. However, having said that, used with care, we have got to know just what to do and what not to do! You do need to empty and clean regularly, as advised, and you also have to clean the extra part inside (which does get pretty awful after a few weeks of use), or you run the risk of the element going. That has happened to us twice, but this has been insured and been fine otherwise.

Hi.

Well, we've had a Hotpoint machine for the past 5 years
and it hasn't once required a service or caused us any
trouble what soever. Not bad considering we only paid
around £350 for the washing machine in question, though
our experiment with a condensing tumble drier on the
other hand was a disaster. In the end we had to splash
out for a new vented model which so far is holding out on
us *smile*.
All the best, Ibrahim.

No No No If you read the 'which' mag it will tell you
that for many years they put hotpoint at the bottom of
the list Best wishes

Hi Eleanor.

Absolute rubbish *smile*. If your after a machine with
manual controls Carol, I suggest something from the
Hotpoint range as they do a few which are totally
accessible and which can be brailed. Ask your local
electrical retailer what's available as I'm sure they
have some of the cheaper as well as more expensive
models in stock.
All the best, Ibrahim.

Mine is a Melile (excuse spelling) kwith braille dots
on it but I know Ibrahim would be looking for
something more sophisiticated (not implying you and
Ibrahim are living together) *smile* but I know he
likes high tech ones where he can tell it to start and
stop at a given time and maybe if he is even smart
enough to programme someone to take it out and do the
ironing too *smile*.

Hi all,

It doesn't seem well over seven years since I was
asking for washer recommendations - but here I am
again after a rather difficult week ... with
the washer fusing everything which sent the computer
out ... and lots more
going on besides. (Already I have a lot of washing
to be done, and some was
blackened by the drum and may not come clean!)

OK - If anyone has purchased a new washer and found
it to be suitable for a
totally blind household in the past few months then
I'd be interested in
recommendations.

Thanks so much!
