Oh wow! So hard drives will eventually be a thing of the past? -- Chris Hallsworth e-mail: christopherh40@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx MSN: ch9675@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: chrishallsworth7266 Join TAFN by visiting www.tafn.org.uk.----- Original Message ----- From: "Tristram Llewellyn" <tristram.llewellyn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

It is undoubtedly possible to install a whole operating system on most SSDs however given their price the operating system and critcal applications is all you might store on the SSD itself and use the machine in the cloud. They are however still quite expensive and the sweet spot in the market seem to me to be about 64GB to 128GB afterwich it is silly prices. Undoubtedly also SSDs do boost performance however the more performance you have in the machine to start with the great the gain. I know of an individual who installed an SSD into a small factor laptop (not a Netbook) and was getting boot times under 10 seconds, however as I pointed out earlier it is very expensive. Within five years however these devices will be common and cheap enough to deploy in much wider settings but for the moment the traditional hard still has its role. A certain amount of optomisation has occurred with Windows 7.0 for SSDs but I haven't read the data too carefully myself. Regards.
