For firmware, type in *#0000#.
For Talks version, go into Talks, Options, About.
I have no idea about your other problems.

Hi Both Mandy and myself have N86's with identical contracts taken out at
the same time but for some reason they act differently. Mine for example
with not read the welcome message and also will not say what is on the
opening screen; this problem has occurred recently but I have no idea what I
may have done to cause it.
Please could anyone advise me where the problem may lie and how to go about
putting it right?
Also could anyone let me know how to which Nokia firmware is on the phones;
how to find out the Talks version and any other details as regards software
versions etc I may need to look at?
