Thanks Graham and Steve for clarifying this for me as I wasn't sure what it meant. Vodafone have always told me that they support 3G and, as such, it is better than the older protocol. It is hit or miss whether we get it or not, even within certain parts of the house. That's why I didn't equate to turning it off, because I didn't think we could.
Anyway, hope this has helped Mandy who wanted to preserve battery life on her phone if possible.

on the other hand though I know of several people who get poor 3G reception in their area resulting in regular connection errors or increased dropping of calls part way through. This can happen when on the train for example. If you are in one place though and get a decent connection you may as well leave 3g on, though it is also true that turning it off can lead to an increase in battery life (time between charges I mean rather than total life time of the battery).Cheers Graham Graham Page Home Phone: 0207 265 9493 Mobile: 07753 607980 Fax: 0870 706 2773 Email: gpage@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx MSN: gabriel_mcbird@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: gabriel_mcbird----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Nutt" <steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2008 4:18 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: N73 batteryHi Jackie, Yes, you are talking rubbish <Big Smile>.You can turn off 3G. Go to Tools, Settings, Phone, Network, and from there, select Network Mode. It will currently be set to Dual Mode. If you set it to GSM, you will effectively turn off 3G. Do not do this though, if you useit to download data, as it will slow you down. For example, if you get Email through GPRS, rather than 3G, you will be going quite a bit slower. It is something that your phone picks up in your area to receive your network as far as I know, though someone will correct me if I'm talking rubbish.I'm not sure what else you can turn off to prolong your battery life. How much are you getting out of it, obviously depending on how much you use it?Jackie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mandy Palmer" <Mandy.Palmer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2008 10:47 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: N73 batteryYes Jackie I use blue tooth with a head set so I always have that one turned off unless it's in use because it does chew the battery but is there anything to turn of the 3 G I believe that chews the battery as well, there must be other things, it seems quite a short life. If you go into your Tools menu, and arrow to Connectivity, it will be in there, andshould say Bluetooth on, which you select to turn off. You can always check the status of your Bluetooth by pressing TALKS key followed by soft key two on your mobile. As well as giving you network coverage and battery status, it will tell you if Bluetooth is turned on. I hope this helps.
