I would really like to echo, no, quote Andrew's words: The main thing is that you need to treat the machine as a completely different type of system - i.e, its not a PC. Don't think of it like a PC. The basis of the Mac IS different, even though Windows pretty well imitates some of the Mac's traditional 'look and feel' One thing that's going to be needed is good tutorials which treat the Mac in its own right, not trying to draw mis-leading parallels with Windows. Given your background and knowledge Andrew, it may not be too long before you investigate Apple Script, which may just have some potential to customise things a little more to your liking. The version I got cost £500 inc vat, I got the expensive one with more ram, and the difference between this one and the one I got with a DVD writer was not that much, considering the machine is not easy to upgrade (it has to go into a service centre, but the same machines run for a lot longer without needing upgrading). I am continually surprised with the access given - true it isn't grate, but it is hell of a lot more usible than Narator with Windows, it has a load of options, and has been well thought out - i.e, a lot of keyboard shortcuts etc. The main thing is that you need to treat the machine as a completely different type of system - i.e, its not a PC. Don't think of it like a PC. Commands you use on a PC will not work with the Mac. This is not the screen reader's fault.
