John,
Carried out both sets of instructions for switching off
Reading Pane and To Do options.
While it has made a small improvement to how Outlook is
working it hasn't made any difference to me being able to
read some messages.
To recap, in Outlook 2003 I could read messages whether they
were plain text or HTML but now all I get with HTML
messages is JAWS saying:
"Graphic" or "Header" etc.
Also I seem to have inadverdantly changed the list so that
the latest message appears on top. I prefer to have the
latest messages at the bottom of the list.

Hi Jim,
If Office 2003 wasn't uninstalled prior to installing Office
2010, then the
Office 2003 programs will be left on the system as they can
both be used and
co-exist on the same system. This is not, however, true of
Outlook, as only
one version of Outlook can be on the system at any one time
and this is why
Outlook 2010 is the version on your system. You can safely
uninstall the
Office 2003 programs if you so wish and this will not affect
the Office 2010
programs.
Anyway, back to your Outlook issue. It could be that you are
viewing the
messages in the reading pane, so for a start, let's get rid
of that and see
how you go on.
1. Shift F6 twice to the ribbon menu and right cursor to the
'view' menu.
2. Cursor down until you get to 'layout' and then press
right cursor.
3. Cursor down until you get to 'reading pane' and press the
spacebar to
open the dropdown menu.
4. Cursor down to 'off' and press the enter key.
It is also a good idea to turn off the 'to-do' feature -
that is, of course,
if you don't use it.
1. Do as above steps from 1. To 2. and then cursor down
until you get to
'to-do bar'.
2. Press the spacebar on the item which will open a dropdown
menu, cursor
down until you get to 'off' option and press the enter key.
3. Close and restart Outlook and see if you can delete
unwanted items.

Apologies for cross postings.
Using JAWS 13 and Outlook 2010
On odd occasions when I want to delete a new e-mail I don't
want to read,
pressing the Delete key takes me into the message instead.
And I'm stuck in
the dam thing!
Pressing Escape does nothing and I have no choice but to
press Alt+F4. Of
course, this takes me out of the Outlook altogether.
What I cannot also understand is that when Office 2010 was
installed, all
Office 2003 programmes were left on my system, except for
Outlook which I
appear to be stuck with.
Any suggestions? (Polite ones only please!)
