Some thoughts on the use of beta software and what you can do about it.

This is beta software and in test, so it will not be perfect for all users.
Finding problems is what testing is about.

From the Microsoft web site where you probably downloaded the beta from you
will see there are instructions on how to get to the newsgroups for the
Microsoft Anti-spyware program.

When the application first came out I signed up for all of these. They are
quite heavy traffic so it is difficult to keep up with all of them.

On the first couple of releases I sent notes into the Announce newsgroup
about issues that did not work with screen readers.

I got some very good feedback from the Microsoft folks manning the
Newsgroup. They confirmed that Microsoft are committed to making their
applications accessible and that before it went into production it should
all be fully accessible.

One of my complaints was that a blind person could not initiate a scan. The
screen icon for doing this was just a bitmap image without any label or
hook. They have addressed this bit, if prompted by my test findings or not
does not matter, by putting a properly labelled icon on the screen and by
adding a scan option to the context menu.

So, my suggestion to any of you who are unhappy about this program is to
join the Newsgroup and tell them, in as much detail as you can, what it is
you find difficult or impossible.

After all, that is what beta testing is about. You are not using a finished
product here.

 I hope this helps.

Hi Sayka,

Well that's a start. I wonder what happened to Microsoft Accessibility
policy!

Regards.
Jim.
