Hi.

I don't honestly know how to answer that question. I guess everyone is entitled to their view, but I do think it's mainly ignorance or reputation that gives Mcafee a bad name with blind people. If you know how to use it, it is a pleasure to use and most of the headaches associated with administering software are avoided because Mcafee is a subscription based model and installs, updates and works tightly with the web to provide protection. As for actually alerting you, you can set it to make a sound upon an alert being displayed and then you use the jaws cursor and routing to deal with said alert. Alerts appear on the desktop so no flicking around open windows to find them and they'll stay on the screen for a good while so you can have an opportunity of dealing with them.

All the best, Ibrahim

In your opinion, why do so many people say Mcafee is rubish and totally inaccessible and to uninstall it. From what you say it sounds very accessible and maybe just the ticket.

Hi Saqib.

Yeah, I do agree with you that AVG is faster, however AVG 8 I found to be much more difficult to work with than AVG 7.5. I used to use AVG until they phased out 7.5 after which I went to Mcafee. Also, for the money, you do get a lot more features with Mcafee including a system cleaning tool, secure file eraser, network management tools, backup and restore capability not forgetting to mention that everything is web-based so you can use the virtual cursor in most of the screens because it's managed from the security centre. Also, updates are pushed directly to your computer, there's no need to worry about scheduling updates or forgetting to install them etc.

All the best, Ibrahim

Hi. I find this program mostly unaccessible and seems to slow my machine down quite a bit. I had 9 months left of my subsription and decided to ditch it for AVG. My computer runs much faster and AVG is much more accessible.

Hi Jackie.

I personally use Mcafee with jaws and have no problems. It is possible to
make it user friendly with a couple of quick adjustments, and now I've
Mcafee software licenses deployed across all four of the household
computers. I do wish that people wouldn't rubbish products before they've
evaluated them fairly.

Actually this is definitely not true. The person who kindly set up my
machine installed and activated JAWS for me while McAfee was still on
the machine. I then removed McAfee and put on AVG 8.0 Free, and have
not encountered any problems with JAWS. Jackie Cairns

As my earlier message stated, you will need to completely remove the
McAfee products before authorising JAWS. Disabling them, or not
activating them will not do it.

Subject: [access-uk] jaws authorisation on netbook again

Hi there. Thanks for previous thoughts on this but it seems I am still
unable to authorise my copy of jaws on my new Samsung NC10.

I so far deliberately haven't taken advantage of the Mcafee offer and
the mcafee window remains open.

I've tapped my 20 character jaws code into the correct edit field and
I'm being told 'please wait'. Though it warns me it may take several
minutes, 10 minutes go past without any change. So I guess that I
haven't connected with the Freedom Scientific servers and certainly the
project is not registered yet.

Note that I've not had a mcafee window popup to tell me that jaws wants
access to the internet. And I've had my jaws updated today to make sure
I have enough lives left.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Also, weirdly, I can't ever seem to close down the jaws activation
window with an alt f4.

I understand there is a way of having an email sent that will authorise
jaws for me. Does anyone know anything about this? Will it need to
access the freedom scientific servers because this seems a bhit of an
issue for me.

Thanks v much. Oh and this is the first ever email sent by netbook from
me. How exciting!

...Damon
