Hi Andy

Oh dear, when you say it might be the wrong AC adaptor I immediately think the worst. If you have used an adaptor with a higher output voltage than that used by the original, you risk permanently damaging the hard drive. Also if the polarity is different you also risk damage, unless there is reverse polarity protection circuitry built into the drive.

I've had a look at my AC adaptor and it has a 12V DC output rated at 2 amps, and The power connector is centre positive. It has the letters ADP on the label as well, maybe they are the AC Adaptor manufacturers?

However, and this is unusual for an adaptor, but this one has a small button just below the earth pin. When I got my adaptor it had a two pin connector, like that used in Europe. What I had to do was press this little button, which allowed the two pin connector part to slide off. Then I pushed on the 3 pin connector that was included in the box and then I was able to plug it into a normal mains socket. So, if you find an adaptor with this little button just below the earth pin, you know you have found the correct adaptor.

No eyes required. lol

Like yourself and many other people I have numerous adaptors for all different gadgets, I sometimes have to stop and think which one is for which device. They can be a real pain. Anyhow hope you get it sorted soon.

Darren.

Hi Darren

Your right mate one button and it's on the front. I have been using the drive the other way round so I could easily plug in the power socket.

I don't know what the button is for and have never used it.

What I think I've done is lost the correct adapter for it. The one that is connected may well be less powerful than the correct one. cannot find another adaptor laying about though.

Are you able to read, or perhaps get a friend to read anything that may be written on your adaptor. This will help me identify the correct one for my drive.

I've got loads of them around the house, plugged in to various items, so it's possible that I've got mixed up.

Best wishes.

Andy.

Hi Andy

Yes I have the maxtor one touch external hard drive as well, but I'm a little confused, as you say there are two buttons on the rear of the drive. However I cannot find any on mine. The only button I know of is the one located on the front at the bottom.

If the drive is failing to start when you switch the power on, and all cables are securely in place. Then I would suspect it has become faulty.

Sorry I can't be more helpful

Darren.

Hi all.

Anyone got the Maxtor 1 Touch 750 GB External drive.

I need some assistance with mine as it no longer wants to boot. I just discovered a couple of buttons on the back of the device today, which I did not realize were there. Perhaps I've turned it off or something, anyway, I've you have one of these I'd welcome some advise from you please.

Best wishes.

Andy.
