Hi Graham,

I would say the E60 and the N91 have just as good keypads as the Owasys.

steve there are a couple of other big problems with the owasis that are just
as fundamental, unless the software has been updated.

:you can't send a text of more than 160 characters long. There is also a
problem with the volume sometimes muting when you make a call if it is
turned up full. Also there is no way to back up your contacts to either
another memory card or a computer for safe keeping.

I do know one person who likes this phone. I think Steve is a little
overcritical of the speech. It is probably reasonably clear to most people.

The number pad is also easy to use, far easier than many of the nokias.
Can't comment on the N91 as I've not seen it but the 5500 sport and the N73
are not the easiest numberpads for everyone.

I have to say though that, despite these positive points, the owasis is
probably garbage for most people as the features are limited and it works
out expensive. I think that even the most basic users of a talking phone do
deserve a little more.

regards

graham

Hi Ian,

Mobile Speak will actually go on more phones than Talks, because there are
three versions. One for Symbian, same as Talks, one for Windows Smart
Phone, and one for Windows 05 Pocket PC edition. Some Pocket PCs have
phones built in, like the O2 Exec, or the Orange SPV phones.
http://www.codefactory.es or http://www.nuance.com/talks will get you more
info on this.

As for the Owasys, the problem is no screen, as I see it. The operators
know nothing about them, such as T-Mobile or Voda, and no sighted person can
easily help you, because they are "specialist" phones.

Aside from that, you can't download additional ring tones, you can't do
anything with Bluetooth, and the worst part of all is that the speech is
some kind of Spanglish rubbish.

That's my take on it, and yes I admit I am a Talks reseller for those that
don't know, but MS or Talks are both light years better than the Owasys. I
think the problem of no screen though, is the biggest problem.

I understand, though I can't verify this, that some Sim cards even crash the
Owasys, so definitely one to avoid, I'd say.

Does Mobile speak go on the same types of phones as Talks please? Or are
there others that will take it? And could someone remind me what it was in
terms of functionality limitations which made the Oasis so comparatively
unpopular?
