Hi Ray

Book Port is designed by springer Design, but it is a product of the American Printing House for the Blind, who also write the firmware. So Springer really have nothing to do with the development of the BP. The Book Courier does what it does very well, and as steve has already said, the Milestone really doesn't even come close to its playback capabilities. The only reason I can see as to why it might be preferred over the BC is its better recording capabilities and the fact that it probably has its stereo audio channels the right way round for playing music!

I'm not sure if there are any plans to stop making/supplying the Book Courier at the moment, although it's obviously possible if they definitively decide not to develop it any more. having said this, I'd thoroughly recommend you get a Book Courier while you can, it goes everywhere with me.

That's rather sad news Ianabout Book Currier. I wonder why?

I've always been puzzled as to the relationship of BC to Bookport as they
are, in essentials, very similar. Wonder if development will shift over to
BP and American centred needs?

Contrary to your impression, Ray, all indications from Springer Design via the book courier list are that they've moved into a different area of product development and that if the BC is not completely on hold, it is at least very firmly on the back burner.

I'm interested James to hear there is a BC users list, although I don't
have a Currier at the moment.

Must say that from all that's been said the Book Currier would be a much
better buy for the extra forty quid or so. I did hear rumours that BC
might be upgraded very soon. Any truth in this James, or any one , as
far as you know?

Hi Ray

What problems are you having with the BC? You can contact me off-list,
on list or use the Book Courier user group (send mail to
bookcourier-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with "subscribe" in the subject line)
and I'll see if I can help.

Andrew,

In a way, I am slightly compelled to upgrade Milestone as I still have

problems downloading a daisy title to my BC here at home. But I have
to admit, the BC takes a lot of beating!

Hi,

I for one am glad I didn't purchase one before now - I was under the
impression the upgrade would be free from what I had read on the
website and elsewhere.

I will probably just continue to use Book Courier, because I know that

upgrades for the while are free, and it does what I need it to do.

Andrew.

Hi Paul,

I just wondered why would would have to pay extra for what is
essentially a firmware update. It's been free for years to have Daisy

on the Book Courier, once you had bought it. It would make it much
more marketable I feel if Daisy just came with it, as it does the Book

Courier and other devices.

Hi Brian,

Did you know though, they charge an extra 15 quid or thereabouts just

for Daisy support?

Sorry to those on another list where I've already asked a similar question. Does anyone know whether the new firmware version for the Milestone, V2.6, supports daisy files? The release notes accompanying the download don't say. But I've heard a suggestion that it now does.
