HI David.

OK, if your looking for quality in terms of high resolution graphics, inkjet is better. The problem with inkjet is that you don't get many prints per cartridge, the cartridges themselves cost as much as 35 pounds to buy and ink being ink, it can easily smudge on documents if you carry them around IE in a bag. Inkjet is better for text and low resolution graphics, you usually only have one toner cartridge and you can get thousands of pages out of it before it need be replaced. Laser printers however are more expensive and the toner to fill them can be twice as expensive as ink cartridges, however you get more prints and in my view better value in the long term.

All the best, Ibrahim

So, am I correct in thinking that a laser printer should be much less
trouble to maintain than an ink jet? Which gives the best print quality?

Hi Ibrahim

I use a mono laser. It's a Samsung ML2151 which I've had about four
years. It prints at 20 pages per minute and has two trays, one to hold
a whole ream of paper, and the other to do envelopes and labels. It
runs on USB and Parallel, though I use it on USB.

Before that, I had a Brother mono laser for years. When I was doing my
journalism courses at college, I did get a cheap HP inkjet so I could
work with colours as colour lasers were very big and expensive then.
But I only ever used it when I had to do something say for a cover or
magazine, and I gave it to my son who still uses it today.

Colour lasers have diminished in size and price to what they were, but I
guess it depends how much you will use it, and may well find that a mono
will do the job for straightforward documents.

Hi Jackie.

Do you use a monochrome machine IE black and greyscale or do you have a
colour machine. When I returns this Lexmark, I may go for a laser
again.
