Hi Chris & All, I'm finding this thread ver interesting having just bought an Acer laptopwit Vista home premium which I have to say in hindsight I think was an idea.Anyway my questions if I were to get a downgrade to XP how much issue wouldit cause doing an install in losing the Acer stuff that's on my laptop? Also having just loaded my last install of Office 2003 would I be able to uninstall Office to allow me to install it again or would I have to get a brand new copy? Your comments gratefully appreciated, Cheers, Phil -----Original Message-----From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf OfChris Hallsworth Sent: 10 September 2008 21:25 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Laptops revisitedI very much doubt it. Some companies, like Dell and Acer, are offering XP asdowngradable disks however, but I doubt you can buy machines with XP preinstalled now. -- Chris Hallsworth E-mail: christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx MSN: ch9675@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: chrishallsworth7266 FTP: ftp://blindsoftware:ilovecracks@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Klango: chrishallsworth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adrien Collins" <adriencollins22160@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2008 9:16 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Laptops revisitedHi Can you still get xp pc's cheaply? Also, the Mac is very stable, not something we can say about Windows! I stil use XP Pro on my Windows Box, and I am happy enough with it. All the bestHi George, If you change to the classic start menu though, you loseone of thefew lovely advantages of Vista. You can go to the runmenu, and justtype anything and it will find the nearest program. Soyou couldtype "word" and you will be right on Word. If you changethat toclassic, you lose it. One of the few things I like aboutVista.Other than that, I think Vista is Microsoft's idea of apracticaljoke. If nothing else, you canatleast change to the Classic Start menu. Office 2007 is the nasty one. For example in Word, whilealot of keyboard shortcuts have been retained, the whole structure has changed and things have been moved all over the place. I have only used toshiba laptops, most of them start at 2 gb ram which is pretty good. I don't know the other makes, toshiba prices are reasonable too. I am interested in the toshiba equium 210, does any bodyusethis laptop? What is it like? I am also seriously looking at the toshiba satellite300d,this has 2 gb ram and if I order it I will upgrade to 3gbof ram, is 2 gb sufficient to run vista and hal and allmyother programs? Would I be better with the 3 gb? Lastly, being in France, not many companies over herewillsupply me with a laptop with english keyboard or windows. Therefore I have to purchase from the UK. I know of play.com, laptops direct and pcworld, would you guys beableto recommend some other companies to me please.
