Well, what Graham has to say has validity but frankly I would not have couched it in such a judgemental way. tetchiness expressed by the likes of Jeramy Clarkson may be amusing but it might not have such entertainment value on a list like this.

Just my humble opinion folks.

the point is that it may be more profitable to look at ways of getting that help as the quickest solution to your problems. I have seen Peter's idea and assumed correctly you had tried it. I have certainly had problems myself with computers that I cannot sort without sighted assistance and, if you don't have any neighbour at all you can trust it is necessary to consider all possible ways of getting this help. Taking that laptop down the pub was just one suggestion and I have done this before now myself.

I did a search for RNIB Computer Volunteer and found that BCAB now seems to operate this service. although they also say that RNIB runs it. I don't know for sure and I suppose it doesn't really matter. Anyway, the phone number to ring is 0845 604 2341. This service is intended to help with general hardware and software problems rather than access technology issues. If this fails, is there a local society for the blind near you?

In short, I find it difficult to believe that you cannot get assistance if you really put your mind to it and think "can do" rather than "Can't do".
