Hi I would not like to say whether you are going about it in the wrong way. = But don't forget, for the main part, it's down to your location in = respect of your exchange. If you used a non BT line provider, you will = still be using the same piece of copper wire from the exchange to your = house. If you suspect that you are not getting a fast service, could you ask = neighbours about what they are getting? Of course, the only way you can = test it is to sign up with different Internet Service Provider's and = observe their performance but as it is likely that it would involve a = year's contract it could take a long time to find the right one. I also = wonder if you considered the other side of the equation? i.e. A data = transfer involves two sides, a downloader and a uploader. When you get = poor download transfer speeds, could it be that the uploader is holding = the speed back? Is it at a peak time for either side. As you think = about it, whether it is a LLU or not makes little difference. =20 HTH Gena Amateur Call: M 0 E B P VOIP / IM: gena1959uk -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf = Of Amro Bilal Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2007 1:37 PM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: LLU internet service provider? Quite right, Gina. I wish I lived in a cable area; I would've used = Virgin's=20 cable services. I'm with Virgin now and I'm promised a speed up to 8Mb. = My=20 line, according to BT, is a good line and can support this speed of data = transfer. However, with a contention rate exceeds 50-1 in peak times = what do=20 I get? I sometimes don't even reach the 512Kb speed - 35/40Kbps; = pathetic. I=20 understand that most likely no one would get the 8Mb downloading speed, = but=20 in a good day my internet speed goes up to, just above, 1.5MB. I started = losing faith in the ADSL technology in whole. I'm prepared to pay that=20 little extra money and get a good service and decent after sales = support.=20 But it seems that with internet home services that one pay more for a = little=20 or no more gain. That's why I'm looking to understand what LLU ISP would = mean to me. I'm even considering looking for the more expensive business = internet services. Am I being just frustrated and impatient and dealing = with=20 this the wrong way?
