Hi Pele,

Interesting questions. It's not for me to comment on anything other than the
story for which I was responsible. The thrust of that story was that here we
have a massively strong and attractive world brand which is also ironically
extremely easy to use. Many visually impaired people, particularly the younger
ones, would want an iPod. Yet it seemed to have designed us as a community out
of using it. So, as often happens in these circumstances, someone from within
the community came up with a solution. Then the second line of the story was,
despite this, we still couldn't use iPod and iTunes in the same plug and play
way as a sighted person can. You can imagine how frustrated I was not to have
a representative of apple on the show. But I'm still battling with them. In
short, the story wasn't about portable digital music playing choices, it was
about the inaccessibility and relative lack of usability of a huge world-wide
brand for those people who might most be interested in it. That's not to say
that your idea isn't worth doing as a story on its own.

Cheers now.

Ian

  Hi Everyone

Following the discussion on the Freedom Box, I would like to mention the rest
of last night's programme.

Is there any reason why we were not told that there are much more blind
friendly solutions than Itunes and other players than Ipod? Was this due to
lack of
  time?

Why did Sunil not say what his MP3 player was, and tell everyone that it does
actually play MP3 files, which the Ipod does not do?

Ian can copy any tracks he likes from any album using Windows Explorer and an
Iriver.

Itunes may be a good management tool, but we can survive without it.

I'm not knocking the programme, I am interested to know the answers to these
questions.

  Pele West
