Hi MandyYou can indeed download straight to the kindle. As for going back and forward you have the page up and down buttons on the side. You have to turn off the speech temporarily for this though. I hope you get on with it, I find it fantastic. There are improvements that could be made but it is a start.

Hi All.I had the Kindle as a Christmas present it is the keyboard Kindle, a refurbished model. Please will someone go through how I purchase books and please go through it step-by-step? My Kindle is registered as someone purchased my first book so I would have something to read as we were away for Christmas and I didn't have my laptop with me - so I understand I purchase a book on the computer from Amazon and from that point does it give the option to download to the Kindle straight away?I hope someone can help with this and also: how do I go back one page or indeed one paragraph also? You can't just repeat a couple of words can you on this Kindle?Mandy.-----Original Message----- From: David RussellSent: Tuesday, January 03, 2012 11:18 PM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Kindle Kevin, I also purchase using my pc on amazon and use my wireless connection todownload the books. One thing to remember when purchasing books is that youshould ensure that text to speech is enabled before you purchase. This is usually the case, but some publishers will not give permission for their books to be read using speech.Another thing worth poiting out is that Amazon have something called Kindle daily deal which means one book is discounted each day, usually to a cost of99p. For wireless you set-up the device to use your wireless connection (if you have one). You buy the book and if wireless is turned on the book is downloaded automatically to your Kindle. I buy practically all my books using the wireless connection. I purchase books (using my PC) in the Kindle store as, to my knowledge it is very difficult, (if not impossible) to purchase them, as a blind person using the shop online facility on the Kindle. I use Jaws, on my PC. But a few more questions, at least for now? (smile). 1. If you use your PC to download books, presumably you connect your device to the computer to do so? Does this mean that there is some software you need for the PC to recognise Kindle in order to do that? 2. What voice does it use? Please don't say it's Daniel? (grin). 3. When people talk about a keyboard, do you mean a keypad on the device that you use for navigation purposes? 4. How easy is it to get the thing talking to start with? Someone on another list kindly gave me some info, but I've inadvertently deleted it while doing some PC housework. Many thanks. Feel free to write to me off list to avoid clutter if this thread is no longer of any interest to others.
