Hi Cathrine, I use a braille note and it certainly isn't suitable for one
handed work...sounds like it Is your cable thats come a wire lose somewhere.
Should be a simple job if you know an Honest person who won't pretend to do
a big job for the sake of just a lose wire. Does this cable detatch at both
ends?  If so invest in a replacement cable it won't be too expensive!  Best

I do not own a BrailleNote myself, but I'm aware that the newer
BrailleNotes has a one handed mode whereby you press the individual
braille (or qwerty, depending on whether it's a BrailleNote QT or BT)
keys, then a space bar which will generate the character or command that
you want to perform.
